Greenbox’s facilities in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne have been awarded an R2 certification, the premier global standard for electronics repair and recycling.
Greenbox manages its customers’ IT assets end-to-end, from pre-deployment and installation, right through to critical data sanitisation and disposal to ensure sensitive information is effectively destroyed when a device is replaced.
The R2: 2013 standard is designed to ensure best practices in electronics recycling through the implementation of environmental, health and safety procedures that benefit employees, the community and the environment. Greenbox joins more than 700 facilities in more than 30 countries with the R2 accreditation, which is the fastest-growing standard of its type.
“We are proud to have passed the rigorous requirements and auditing process to achieve the R2 certification,” said Phillip Dickman, Chief Executive Officer at Greenbox.
“This global standard provides Australian customers with assurance that their IT assets will be disposed of with full protection against data breaches and environmental liabilities. It’s confirmation that you’re working with an industry leader in operations, safety and environmental performance who will manage end-of-life equipment and data with the utmost care.”
Facts about R2 and electronics recycling
- Only 20% of the world’s electronics are recycled and volumes are predicted to increase more than 33% by the end of the decade.
On a global scale, we generate nearly seven kilograms of used electronics per capita per year.
The topics covered in the R2 Practices include the proper management of environmental and OH&S issues using an EHS management system, proper selection and management of downstream vendors, use of generally-accepted data destruction practices, safe storage practices, a functioning security program and demonstration of financial responsibility. - R2 accredited organisations are audited annually by an independent third party.
The R2 Standard was created by multiple stakeholders, including representatives from the EPA, NGOs, leading industry experts, recyclers, and users of reuse/recycling services. - Sustainable Electronics Recycling International (SERI) is the non-profit organisation that administrates and develops the R2 Standard.
